The main histologic characteristic of this tumor type is that it contains both squamous cell carcinoma and ductal adenocarcinoma components. Adenosquamous carcinoma – a rare pancreatic cancer. Acinar cell carcinoma - a rare pancreatic cancer Neuroendocrine tumors -located in the pancreas, these tumors include the following – they may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous): Pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is an enigmatic and aggressive tumor that has a worse prognosis and higher metastatic potential than its adenocarcinoma counterpart. Here we report that ASC tumors frequently harbor somatically acquired mutations in the UPF1 gene, which encodes the core component of the nonsense-mediated RNA decay (NMD) pathway.

The clinical and molecular understanding of this aggressive variant, along with potential differential response to systemic therapies, is an understudied yet important topic. Methods: After obtaining Institutional Review Board approvals, the Johns Hopkins cancer registry and electronic medical record was interrogated for histopathological and clinical characteristics of ASQ. Abstract. Purpose: Adenosquamous pancreatic cancer represents 0.9-4.4% of exocrine pancreatic neoplasms and is generally thought to be associated with a worse prognosis than the more common ductal adenocarcinoma. The aim of the current study is to describe the outcome of patients with adenosquamous pancreatic cancer in our institution who were managed in a multidisciplinary environment.

P ancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma (ASCa) is a rare variant of ductal adenocarcinoma that is reported to represent only 3–4% of exocrine pancreatic malignancies.1,2 Also referred to as mucoepider-moid carcinoma and adenoacanthoma in older literature, pancreatic Introduction and Background. Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) of the pancreas is a rare unusual variant of pancreatic cancer. It is estimated to have an incidence of ∼1–4% of all pancreatic malignancies. 1 Histologically, these tumors consist of two components: glandular adenocarcinoma cells and at least 30% malignant squamous cell carcinoma. 1–3 Compared to the more common pancreatic Only 1 patient is still alive at 9 months after surgery, but has known residual cancer around his portal vein noted during palliative distal pancreatectomy.
